Lowe’s Companies revisits site plan
By Luann Laubscher
In 15 to 20 years the Lowe’s Companies campus in Mooresville could contain more than 3-million-square-feet of office space in several seven-story buildings.
Lowe’s received a positive recommendation from the Mooresville Planning Board last Thursday for its amended Conditional Use (CU) site plan for 163.58 acres of the campus. The Conditional Use permit would allow the increase in building square footage from about two million to a little over three million square feet. It would also allow the building height to exceed the maximum limit up to seven stories.
The Mooresville Town Board of Commissioners will consider the Conditional Use request at its Sept. 6 meeting.
Lowe’s should employ about 8,000 people at build-out, which chould be reached in 15 to 20 years, according to Ames Flynn, vice president of administration for the company. Campus construction is being staggered in seven phases. There are currently about 1,350 employees working at the Mooresville headquarters of the home improvement company. There are still about 2,000 Lowe’s employees working at its offices in Wilkes County.
Last month, Lowe’s announced its plans for the third phase of construction on the campus located on Lowe’s Boulevard across from Lake Norman Regional Medical Center
